South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle is urging the Scottish Government to set out how it proposes to allow relatives of care home residents more opportunities to see their loved ones over the coming months.
The call comes as Scotland approaches full coverage for first doses of vaccines to those living and working in care homes.
Brian, the Scottish Conservatives’ spokesman for public health, believes that as the vaccine rollout expands, the Scottish Government must put plans in place to let care home residents safely meet with their friends and family. While stressing the importance of keeping people save, Brian argued that setting out a plan now would give all those families affected by care home restrictions a sense that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“Keeping care home residents safe has to be the top priority, but as more of us receive our first and second doses of the vaccine, I think it’s important that we start thinking about how we can safely reunite care home residents with their loved ones.
We aren’t there yet, but the better prepared we are for when we reach that point, the more quickly we can put changes in place.”
