Brian Whittle MSP has highlighted the challenges facing some teachers during the pandemic.
During Portfolio Questions in the Scottish Parliament, Brian asked the Deputy First Minister, John Swinney, what more could be done to support teachers, particularly while providing remote learning.
Brian’s question followed reports that some teachers have been struggling with connectivity issues and teaching around caring for their own children. Concerns have also been raised about the difficulties of maintaining contact with special needs pupils and other vulnerable children.
With most pupils and teachers expected to be working from home for several more weeks and any return to school likely to be gradual, Brian says the Scottish Government need to ensure that teachers have the support they need to offer pupils the best possible education.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“Learning from home has been very challenging for pupils and teachers alike. For the most vulnerable pupils in particular, interaction with their teacher can be an important lifeline.
We’re still some way away from saying the pandemic is behind us and, until then, the Scottish Government have to ensure that every pupil can learn effectively at home, and every teacher has the support they need to make that possible. “
