Brian Whittle MSP’s latest visit to a Kilmarnock business is enough to make anyone’s mouth water.
On a visit to Brownings the Bakers, the South Scotland MSP heard about the firm’s long history in Kilmarnock and was shown round the bakery by Managing Director John Gall.
Family firm Brownings has been a Kilmarnock institution since 1945 and has grown to become a nationally recognised brand employing 180 staff and supplying several national brands including Spar, Scotmid and Keystore. They also run eight of their own shops and supply twenty different products to 92 Aldi stores with more new products coming soon. While their Kilmarnock pie has become an icon of Scottish football snacks, Brownings also supply pies to some of the UK’s other top football teams.
John Gall, the Managing Director of Brownings said “We are always happy to welcome guests to our business and give a tour of the factory, many don’t realise the scale and size of production our small family business has grown into. We are very proud in our 75th year that we are now one of the largest employers in the area and have plans for further expansion. We are continually growing the Brownings brand nationally and internationally putting Kilmarnock and Ayrshire on the map.”
Brian Whittle MSP said "It’s always great to learn more about a local business who have become a success. Even more so when it relates to cake! It was a pleasure to meet John and hear about how the business has grown and their plans for the future
Brownings and their Kilmarnock Pies are a nationally recognised brand from right here in Ayrshire. It’s a fabulous example of a small family business growing to become a major company and I look forward to seeing it grow further in the future.”
