South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle has welcomed a newly expanded role in his party.
The Scottish Conservative MSP, who was spokesperson for Wellbeing and Sport is now Shadow Minister for Health. The move comes as part of a wider reshuffle in the party following the election of Jackson Carlaw MSP as leader, succeeding Ruth Davidson.
Brian has been part of his party’s health team since his election in 2016, campaigning for more action to tackle preventable conditions like heart disease and type-2 diabetes as well as improving the quality of meals in schools and hospitals. Now, the former Olympian’s brief will expand to cover all aspects of health and he works with his colleague Miles Briggs MSP, the party’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health to develop policy ahead of the 2021 Scottish Election
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“I’m delighted Jackson has asked me to remain in my role as part of the health team. I came into politics to try to address the massive challenge of preventable illness facing our NHS and I’m happy to have the chance to help develop our policies to address this ahead of the next election.
Improving the health and wellbeing of Scots is an issue close to my heart and I look forward to continuing my work as part of Jackson’s team.”
