Smart meter quiz helps to demonstrate benefits for Scotland
Brian Whittle, the MSP for South Scotland had their finger on the button at Holyrood this week, as part of an interactive ‘smart energy gameshow’ organised by Smart Energy GB, the independent campaign for the smart meter rollout.
All MSPs were invited to take part in the Smart Energy GB gameshow – competing against fellow MSPs to test their knowledge about the benefits of smart meters.
Smart Energy GB’s latest campaign focuses on the smarter, greener and digital energy system that smart meters will unlock.
Over 800,000 households in Scotland now have a smart meter, and with climate change at the top of the national agenda, households who have yet to upgrade are being urged to seek an installation from their energy supplier.
Smart Energy GB has launched a new phone line to help people book a smart meter installation. Householders can call 0300 131 8000 or search ‘I want a smart meter’ online.
Brian Whittle MSP commented:
“The game show was a fun and interactive way to learn about smart meters. By showing your electricity use in real time, you get a better idea of what all your different activities cost; from making a cup of tea to charging an electric car. Making small changes to when and how you use electricity at home might seem trivial, but if every household can use a little less electricity, it can make a big difference to the climate and your bills!
Getting a smart meter doesn’t cost you anything so I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t got one to speak to their electricity supplier about arranging an upgrade”
Iagan MacNeil, Smart Energy GB, Scotland said:
“It’s been great to talk to MSPs about the smarter energy system that is being created at the moment. The smart meter rollout is making really good progress in Scotland and the benefits of a modern, greener energy system are already beginning to be seen.
“We want every household in Scotland to feel more in control of their energy usage and spend with a smart meter, so request your upgrade today.”
