The Scottish Government must do all it can to stamp out bullying in the NHS according to Brian Whittle MSP who has raised the recent allegations of bullying within NHS Ayrshire & Arran at Holyrood.
During a debate on support for midwives, the South Scotland MSP warned that a failure to act decisively to tackle bullying in the NHS risked driving staff out of the profession and making it harder to recruit new medics.
Bullying has become a concern across the NHS, with a review into NHS Highland by John Sturrock QC suggesting hundreds of its staff may have experienced inappropriate behaviour at work.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“Bullying is always unacceptable and the suggestion that it’s taking place within NHS Ayrshire & Arran are deeply troubling.
These allegations must be fully investigated and I’d encourage anyone who has experienced any kind of bullying to come forward."
