Local MSP Brian Whittle has called on the Scottish Government to lay out details of proposals to support the wellbeing of NHS and social care staff affected by their work treating patients during the coronavirus outbreak.
During a question session in the Scottish Parliament with Health Secretary Jeane Freeman, Scottish Conservative Shadow Health Minister Brian Whittle highlighted the physical and mental toll caring for people with coronavirus has on health and social care workers.
In response, the Cabinet Secretary confirmed that the Scottish Government were working on the issues and promised to report back with more details soon.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“Taking care of our health and social care workers has never been more important. Health and care workers are seeing the impact of coronavirus up close, often being faced with difficult choices and dealing with the death of patients.
There’s no doubt that this will be a traumatic experience for many workers, and it’s vital we give them the support to deal with that and look after their mental health.
I’m pleased the Scottish Government have recognised this and look forward to hearing more about how they plan to care for those who are doing so much to care for us.”
