South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle has slammed the SNP Government and Health Secretary Humza Yousaf for presiding over Scotland’s worst ever A&E waiting times.
The latest figures showed 32.6% of patients were waiting more than four hours to be seen at A&E departments, far short of the SNP’s target for no more than 5% of patients to wait that long.
Scottish Conservative Brian called the latest figures a damning indictment of Humza Yousaf’s management of the health service and showed he was failing to take the steps required to solve the growing crisis.
In Ayrshire & Arran more than a quarter (26.8%) of patients were waiting more than four hours in the most recent week of data.
Now, Brian is asking how long it will take the Health Secretary and the SNP Government to wake-up and act to support NHS staff to get through this crisis.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“These figures are a damning indictment of the NHS under Humza Yousaf and the SNP. He has had months to get a grip of the worsening situation in our A&E departments and he’s failed.
There’s no sign of a credible strategy to give NHS staff the support they need or to remobilise wider NHS services for the thousands of patients waiting for help.
The worse these delays become, the greater the risk to lives as a result. The SNP cannot continue to allow waiting times to spiral out of control.
It’s time for Humza Yousaf to show some leadership. It’s a new year, but the same old SNP talking a good game but failing to deliver.”
