Ayrshire College should be at the heart of plans to create new jobs and training opportunities.
That’s the view of South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle after his party announced plans for a series of regional college taskforces across Scotland.
According to Brian, the plans would see colleges working with local businesses and other agencies to give learners the skills they need for the jobs market.
Brian believes the taskforces can build on the work that Ayrshire College already does to connect with local business and help expand opportunities for life-long learning and re-training.
With COVID-19 likely to have a lasting effect on the demand for different skills in the jobs market, Scottish Conservative Brian says it’s time for colleges and further education to get the recognition they deserve.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“Under the SNP, colleges and other further education centres have been the poor relation of universities, with college places being slashed despite their importance to the economy and jobs market.
Ayrshire College has a great track record of working with a range of businesses in the area to tailor courses to what’s needed. This new regional taskforce initiative from the Scottish Conservatives can build on that success and help deliver a sustainable future for colleges across Scotland.
A strong local economy needs strong partnerships between business and education, ensuring that people have the skills they need to succeed in the workplace, and businesses make the most of local talent.
That’s what the Scottish Conservatives and I aim to deliver.”
