Brian Whittle MSP dropped in at Doon Valley Boxing Club this week for a catch up with head trainer Sam Mullen and give some encouragement to some of the Club’s younger members. The South Scotland MSP has become a big supporter of the Club since first visiting in 2016, shortly after he was elected.
Based on Dalmellington’s Main Street, the Club has become a key part of the community, attracting members from across the Doon Valley and beyond. The Club welcomes all comers; from professional boxers, to aspiring amateurs, to parents who want to have a session in the Club’s gym while their children get some coaching from Sam and his team.
Commenting on the visit, Brian Whittle MSP said:
“It’s always a pleasure to visit Doon Valley Boxing Club and have a chat with Sam. Even in the few years that I’ve been visiting as an MSP, it’s great to see how the Club has grown and developed into an important part of the community.
Local clubs like Doon Valley Boxing are a massively important way of getting more children involved in sport and physically active from a young age, making them healthier and more confident.
Whenever I’m discussing the impact of sport on health and communities, what Sam and his team have achieved here is one of my favourite examples of what can be achieved.”
