Local MSP Brian Whittle is full of praise for Carrick butchery firm We hae meat after a recent visit.
The multi-award winning, family-run butchery firm, based outside Girvan, has built an impressive reputation for producing high quality products with a strong emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Owners Alex and Carlyn Paton run the business from a purpose built facility on the grounds of their family farm, Cairnhill.
South Scotland MSP Brian, who has championed the cause of locally sourcing food, was delighted to learn that every We hae meat product on the shelves of stores including, Tesco, Asda and The Co-operative bears the label “Made in Ayrshire”.
During his visit, Brian sat down with Alex Paton to discuss how to encourage more people to buy locally sourced food and how to support small local firms looking to supply their produce to the public sector.
The two men also discussed their shared admiration for the work of Doon Valley Boxing Club in Dalmellington, which We hae meat has sponsored for several years.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“It was a pleasure to visit We hae meat and have a chat with Alex about the business. It’s great to see firms like this growing and promoting Ayrshire produce across the country. We produce some of the finest quality food and drink to be found anywhere in the world and while I want to see it being enjoyed around the world, it’s important that we give people closer to home the chance to enjoy it too.
The success of We hae meat proves that people value being able to enjoy high quality, local products and I look forward to seeing their business continue to grow in the future”
Alex Paton from We hae meat said:
“It was a pleasure to meet Brian and to have the opportunity to discuss our business with him. We are very proud of what we have achieved in the 10 years since we started We hae meat and our Ayrshire roots are very important to us.”
