South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle has been re-elected to serve as Convenor of a Cross Party Group on Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions at the Scottish Parliament. Around 20% of the population in Scotland will be affected by one of these conditions during their lifetime.
CPGs serve an important role within the parliament, highlighting particular issues to MSPs; giving experts and members of the public with an interest or experience of an issue the chance to exchange ideas and speak directly to policy makers.
Brian, who became Convenor of the CPG on Arthritis & MSK Conditions shortly after his election is also a member of groups discussing improving Scotland’s health, Cancer, Children & Young People, Health Inequalities, Sport, Diabetes and Adverse Childhood Events.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“I’m delighted to have been asked to serve as Convenor for another year. Arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions affect hundreds of thousands of people in Scotland, at all ages and stages of life. Through the Cross Party Group, I’m now planning to hold an event in Parliament later this year to promote the work of the National Osteoporosis Society and I hope to have more opportunities to educate and inform MSPs and the wider public about what more can be done to reduce the number of people developing these conditions and help manage the effects of those who do.”
