As the lockdown and social distancing measures continue, South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle is encouraging the public to continue staying at home and only going out for essentials.
The call follows a statement by Nicola Sturgeon suggesting that some degree of social distancing and other measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus are likely to be in place for many months to come.
With temperatures rising, there are concerns that some members of the public are taking the rules less seriously and making more trips out of their homes.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“I’m grateful that so many people have stuck to the advice and continue to help save lives by staying at home as much as possible.
We’re all being asked to do something that isn’t easy. It doesn’t come naturally to most of us to stay at home so much, especially when the sun is shining but it’s vital that we stick with it.
Ultimately, the better we stick to the rules now, the quicker we’re likely to be rid of them completely. As the weeks roll on I know there’s an instinct for people to think that they aren’t going to get coronavirus but just because you or your loved ones haven’t had it today gives no guarantee that you won’t catch it tomorrow.
More people are still getting covid-19 every day and these measures we’re taking are there to make sure that our NHS has the capacity to give the best possible help to all those who need it. Unnecessary journeys, trips to the seaside, going to visit friends or family living in different houses and ignoring social distancing measures all give the virus more of a chance to spread, putting more pressure on the NHS and more lives at risk.
These are challenging times for us all, but these measures will end and things will get back to normal but for now we all need to keep staying at home so we can all keep saving lives. “
