Scotland’s latest A&E waiting time stats have been slammed by local MSP Brian Whittle after figures showed that across Scotland, only 57.3% of patients were seen within the four-hour target time for A&E waits.
That number falls well short of the SNP’s target for 95% of patients to be seen within four hours, which hasn’t been met since July 2020.
In NHS Ayrshire & Arran, 59.1% of patients were seen within the four-hour target.
Brian believes the figures are further evidence that the Scottish Government are failing to do what’s required to tackle the record waiting times. The South Scotland MSP accused the Health Secretary Humza Yousaf of letting down patients and NHS staff with his failure to properly support the NHS to recover from the pandemic and prepare for this winter.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“These latest A&E waiting times show the true extent of the enormous pressure NHS Ayrshire & Arran and health boards across Scotland are under right now.
So many people, waiting so much longer than they should for treatment, can only put lives at greater risk and it’s time this health secretary did something about it.
Staff working across the NHS are working as hard as they can every day, but they’ve been warning the Scottish Government for months that things needed to change, or we were going to reach a crisis point like this.
The Scottish Conservatives listened and have already set out a range of steps the Scottish Government could take to help the NHS recover but the SNP continue to defend their failing approach.
Humza Yousaf and the SNP need wake-up and accept that their plans aren’t working, listen to those working in the NHS and act to ease pressure on A&E and other departments across the NHS.”
