South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle has welcomed the news that the UK medicines regulator has approved the use of the first vaccine in the fight against Covid-19.
Speaking after the announcement that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has been declared safe for use, Brian Whittle MSP said:
“This is great news and a clear sign that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. While our health and care staff have put in a huge effort to care for those with the virus, the work done by scientists across the UK and around the world has been just as important.
That this is the first of what’s likely to be several effective vaccines for Covid-19 demonstrates what science can achieve when we need it to.
Thanks should also go to everyone who has taken part in a vaccine trial, some of which are still ongoing.
While the arrival of vaccines is hugely welcome news for us all, we aren’t out of the woods yet. Until a significant percentage of the public have been immunised, we all have a responsibility to keep following the guidance and avoid giving the virus opportunities to spread.
The finish line might finally be in sight but we can’t afford to relax until we cross it.”
