South Scotland MSP Brian Whittle is calling on everyone to show their support for carers during National Carers Week which runs until Sunday.
Brian praised carers for going above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic and highlighted that many more people have taken on roles as unpaid carers for vulnerable people in communities across the country.
The Scottish Conservative MSP used the week to call on the Scottish Government to give greater recognition to Scotland’s unpaid carers and ensure they have the support they need to look after relatives and loved ones. Brian also emphasised the need to look after the wellbeing of carers and help them to look after their own health.
Carers have been playing a critical role during the crisis and Brian says we all owe them a big debt of gratitude.
Brian Whittle MSP said:
“Like those in our NHS, Scotland’s carers have gone above and beyond in the fight against COVID-19 and their dedication and hard work deserve to be recognised.
Many more people have taken on roles as unpaid carers for relatives and friends during the pandemic. Caring for someone day in and day out can be demanding, physically and emotionally and financially. In the aftermath of COVID-19, the Scottish Government should recognise the pressures carers have been put under and take action to support them.
Carers play a vital role in looking after some of Scotland’s most vulnerable residents. I hope everyone will show their support for them this week, and all year round.”
