Please see below for a Christmas and New Year Message from Brian Whittle MSP.
“It’s remarkable to think how much has changed since last year. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we’re now past the worst of the pandemic and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those in the NHS and across society who have helped to get us to this point.
This year has brought us new challenges as Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine has pushed up energy costs, disrupted supply chains and caused inflation to rise dramatically. While the rising cost of living has impacted us all, I’m proud that people in South Scotland and across the UK have done so much to support the Ukrainian people with everything from donations of clothing and other supplies to opening their homes to families displaced by the violence.
The energy crisis has served to remind us how important it is that we move away from fossil fuels and towards renewables, not only to tackle climate change but to end our dependence on volatile international markets for energy. Alongside this, making our homes more energy efficient with better insulation and other steps will help cut our heating costs and energy use.
Throughout the year ahead I’ll continue my efforts to improve the lives of people in South Scotland, working with businesses, community groups and other organisations to make the most of what the area has to offer.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.”
